State grant sought for tennis courts upgrade

Tamworth Regional Council is rallying with members of the local community, sporting bodies and local business to support an application for State Government funding with the hope of securing the future of the Treloar Park Tennis Courts.

Council is seeking a grant of $815,576 under the Public Reserve Management Fund Program to refurbish 10 of the existing courts and add two new ones.

Awards celebrate region's diversity

With one-in-five residents having been born overseas and a further 10 per cent from non-English speaking backgrounds, Cairns is one of Australia's most culturally diverse regions.

An awards program established last year to celebrate the region's diversity has returned in 2015 and nominations are now open.

Mayor Bob Manning said the awards aimed to recognise the efforts and achievements of individuals, young people, organisations and businesses in strengthening cultural diversity in Cairns.

Council puts the case for Chinatown revitalisation

The revitalisation of Broome’s Chinatown is a step closer after Council adopted a business case aimed at unlocking the funds needed to make major projects a reality.

Broome Shire Deputy President, Harold Tracey, said the Chinatown revitalisation was a joint project between the Shire of Broome, LandCorp and the Kimberley Development Commission.

“The State Government has earmarked $10 million for revitalising Chinatown and Council is prepared to consider contributing a further $2 million to help make sure this project gets off the ground,” Cr Tracey said.
