Councils Explore Regional Strategic Alliance
Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury and Penrith City Councils are taking the next step to explore a new strategic alliance which aims to support regional cooperation and strengthen the long term future of each council.
None of the three Councils have been targeted for amalgamation under the NSW Government’s ‘Fit for the Future’ reform package, but each Council is required to demonstrate that it has the scale and capacity to be financially sustainable and can deliver efficient and effective services in the long term.
Giant leap forward for Bendigo Airport expansion
Plans for a major expansion at Bendigo Airport have taken a giant leap forward with Greater Bendigo City Council last night formally adopting the planning scheme amendment needed for works to commence.
The amendment allows for construction of a 1,600m long runway and new business park and will now be sent to the Minister for Planning for final approval.
Mayor Cr Peter Cox said expanding the airport is a priority for the Council.
Cheryl Kernot to help empower Clarence women
Former Australian Democrats leader, Cheryl Kernot, will join a host of other recognised speakers and therapists in Grafton later this month for a two-day festival aimed at empowering women.
The Strong Message Festival will be held at the Grafton Community and Function Centre, 59 Duke St Grafton, with the aim of bringing women together to promote strength in unity and give them the power and inspiration to achieve whatever they want in life.
Don’t be a Tosser – Do the Right Thing
Council has secured $90,000 in funding from the NSW Environmental Protection Authority to rollout the ‘Hey Tosser’ program which focusses on litter prevention in the Hawkesbury.
The ‘Hey Tosser’ program targets littering in three identified litter hotspots: Windsor Street, Richmond; North Richmond Shopping Centre car park, North Richmond; and McDonalds/KFC car park at McGraths Hill. These sites were identified after Council conducted a litter audit across the Hawkesbury.
