Melbourne’s design innovations showcased in Italy
Famous Melbourne designs such as the Keep Cup and the Crumpler Bag will be showcased in Italy next month in an exhibition from the City of Melbourne and Monash University’s Faculty of Art Design & Architecture (MADA).
Councillor Kevin Louey, Chair of Council’s Economic Development committee said BlackBOX: Design and Innovation in Melbourne will be held as part of Expo in Citta, in conjunction with the World Expo in Milan.
National Youth Week 2015 ‘It Starts With Us’
Youth Week celebrations kicked off with an action filled event on Saturday at the Lithgow Skate Park, and will continue with a Photo Competition offering some amazing prizes.
Lithgow celebrated Youth Week with an exciting event featuring professional BMX and scooter demonstrations and coaching by Newtons Nation, and a free BBQ provided by the Lithgow Lion’s Club, at the Lithgow Skate Park on Saturday 11 April 2015. “The professional riders from Newtons Nation have been coming to our Skate Park in Lithgow for years, they always comment on what a wonderful facility we have, and provide amazing coaching and advice to our local young people,” said Lithgow City Council Mayor, Councillor Maree Statham. “The demonstrations and skills displayed by Newtons Nation were very popular with the crowd, and provided great entertainment and fun for our local youth during National Youth Week celebrations,” concluded the Mayor.

Swap your weeds for free native plants
Council is hosting 22 weed swap events across the Sunshine Coast region from May 1-30, offering residents the chance to replace backyard pests with free native plants through its War on Weeds program.
Weed swaps run for one to two hours and to take part, residents just need to bring along one shopping bag of weeds which they can then swap for three free native plants.
Bendigo Airport runway construction
The proposed 2015/2016 Budget includes $6.8M to build a new 1600m long runway at the Bendigo Airport.
Of this funding, Council has allocated $2.8M and the remaining $4M is committed from the State Government to help build the $15M redevelopment. Council is awaiting a $5M commitment from the Federal Government to realise the wider project, which is a major initiative of the City of Greater Bendigo Economic Development Strategy 2014-2020.
