Cardinia Shire Council Mayor Cr Brett Owen has thanked residents for their input into the draft budget and Council Plan, saying Council would use the feedback to help direct its operations now and into the future.

Council released its draft budget and draft Council Plan for public comment last month and will meet to formally adopt the documents on Monday 17 June.

Cr Owen said the public contribution to the preparation of these draft documents had been significant and residents could be confident their contribution was valued.

“A key goal for this Council is to increase our public engagement and build stronger partnerships with our community and we have greatly appreciated the response to the public consultation process for these two key documents,” Cr Owen said.

Council’s Reconciliation Action Plan 2013 – 2017 was launched at the Kevin Flint Memorial Gardens recently.

The plan has been developed as a demonstration of Council’s commitment to reconciliation, for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The Reconciliation Action Plan is the result of a process that began with Council’s apology to the stolen generations in February 2008 and the subsequent formation of a working group in October 2011 comprised of Council officers, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representatives and community service providers.

A statement of commitment was developed and signed by Council and Wurundjeri Tribe Land Compensation Cultural Heritage Council at a public ceremony in May 2012, and an indigenous consultant was employed by Council to assist in the development of the draft plan.

"Finding ways to turn ideas into actions plays an important role in activating our city, it creates the unique spaces and experiences that give our city its character."

The Matched Funding Business Grants provide businesses with funding of up to $20,000 on a dollar to dollar basis.
