$10 million in cost shifting revealed
Hornsby Shire ratepayers lost $9.9 million in the 2011-12 financial year because of cost shifting, which occurs when the state and federal governments transfer responsibilities to local councils without giving adequate funding.
BWEZ Planning Scheme Amendment C166 gazetted
The Ballarat West Employment Zone (BWEZ) has reached a key milestone with the Minister for Planning, the Hon Matthew Guy MLC, approving Amendment C166 to the Ballarat Planning Scheme.
The Ballarat West Employment Zone is now officially zoned ready for development, following the publication of the approval in the Government Gazette.
Ballarat Mayor, Cr John Burt OAM, said the news meant the biggest investment and commercial development project in the region could continue to progress.

Tweed Shire Council receives $50,000 for Clothiers, Reserve and Christies Creeks
Mayor of Tweed, Councillor Barry Longland has welcomed a $50,000 grant from the State Government to manage, enhance and protect local estuaries.
The funding - which will be matched by Tweed Shire Council - comes from the NSW Government’s Estuary Management Program, which is administered by the Office of Environment and Heritage.

Local citizens, businesses and organisations can take the opportunity to leave their own personal mark on the future of their community thanks to three trusts established by Gosford City Council.
Businesses and local citizens are able to donate or transfer items such as real estate or funds to three different trusts, managed by a board of community representatives and the General Manager and Mayor of Gosford City.
