Major changes to plot ratio under the City Planning Scheme No. 2 are now in effect, following gazettal of Amendment No. 24 and Amendment No. 25.

Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi said these changes help to maximise the development potential of the city and enhance our standing as a world class capital city.

Amendment 25 increases the maximum plot ratios across large parts of the city.

Lisa Scaffidi said these increases will encourage a greater intensity of development around the city’s train stations and town centres, helping the city to grow in a sustainable manner.

“To encourage more housing in the inner city core, the changes now allow for additional plot ratio for residential developments in this area,”

With a growing residential population and a population of more than 30,000 workers, the City of Melbourne’s new multi-purpose sports courts in Docklands will be a popular destination for lunch-time sporting rivalry.

Melbourne’s newest community sports facility provides a flexible outdoor court space for futsal, netball and basketball. The courts have lights for evening competitions.

Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said that the completion of the $500,000 multipurpose sports courts delivered another important project  for Docklands.

“Docklands  hosts Etihad Stadium and now there’s another place for great sporting contests, just a stone’s throw away, on Harbour Esplanade.

“Melburnians are obsessive about their sport and we all know that there is nothing more serious or competitive than a mixed netball or soccer competition.

“Community sport is an important part of the fabric of a neighbourhood. The sports courts were a priority for local residents. They are now open and ready for competition and casual matches,” the Lord Mayor added.
