Free Sustainable Homes Program Released
The City of Greater Bendigo and Goldfields Library Corporation are proud to present the 2015 Sustainable Homes Program which features a range of free and interesting information sessions to assist people to make their homes more environmentally friendly.
Seven local community groups in Hawkesbury to benefit
Seven non-profit organisations and community groups have been selected to share in a $25,000 grant provided by telecommunications provider, Southern Phone.
The Mayor of Hawkesbury, Councillor Kim Ford and Southern Phone Chairman, Bill Hilzinger, formally announced the funding recipients on Tuesday, 3 March at the Hawkesbury City Council Chambers, Windsor. They were joined by representatives of the successful grant recipients.
“The community groups and organisations that have received these grants will be able to strengthen their programs and activities which will greatly benefit the local community,” Councillor Ford said.
Council reaffirms opposition to forced amalgamations
Manly Councillors and Mayor Jean Hay have reaffirmed their opposition to forced amalgamations with other councils after they and senior Manly Council staff attended two days of strategic planning workshops held over the 21 -22 February 2015 weekend.
“Councillors thoroughly examined the issue of a possible amalgamation by Manly with one or more other council areas, including Warringah and Pittwater,” said Mayor Hay.
The NSW Government’s ‘Fit for the Future’ program requires all councils to submit a merger or improvement proposal by June that would demonstrate long-term financial sustainability.
Council wins funding to make foreshore inclusive and age-friendly
Seniors and people with mobility issues will soon have new ramps, seating and shade installed on our Manning River foreshore, after Council won $50,000 in the Creating Liveable Communities Competition.
The results of the competition were announced on Tuesday 24 February by Minister for Disability Services, John Ajaka and Minister for Local Government, Paul Toole. The money from the NSW Department of Family and Community Services will be used to install ramps at popular access points, seats and shade structures along the existing footpath and in popular parks including Harry Bennett Park, Queen Elizabeth Park and Fotheringham Park.
Competition funds will also be used to purchase a number of iPads, which will be available to seniors to loan from our libraries.
