Event to commemorate the Anniversary of the National Apology

Biripi Aboriginal Corporation Medical Centre in partnership with Greater Taree City Council is commemorating the 7th Anniversary of former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s National Apology to the Stolen Generation with an event this week.

The event is open to all community members and is to acknowledge the local Aboriginal people affected by past policies who were removed from their families and experienced the disconnection from family, country and culture and who are now referred to as “the stolen generation”.

Pittwater loves planting

If you have a passion for our headlands and love planting trees – you’re in for a treat this Valentine’s day!

Pittwater Council will give away free native plants to all Mona Vale, residents on Saturday 14 February from 8am – 12 noon at North Mona Vale Beach car park, at the northern end.

The native plant giveaway will assist the ‘Restoring Coastal Headland Ecosystems’ project, funded by the NSW Environmental Trust.

Rainbow flag raised with pride at Sydney Town Hall

The coloured stripes of the rainbow flag will be raised above Sydney Town Hall to mark the beginning of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras 2015 festival and to celebrate 25 years of the NSW Police Force’s Gay and Lesbian Liaison Officer program.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore invited all Sydneysiders and visitors to the city to join her on the front steps of the Town Hall at 5.30pm on 20 February for the sixth annual flag-raising ceremony.

“While Mardi Gras is a night of fun and glamour, it also demonstrates the strength and diversity of our GLBTI communities,” the Lord Mayor said.

Regional approach to sustainability

Council will join with James Cook University to launch Cairns EcoFiesta as part of the inaugural Tropical North Queensland EcoWeek.

The event will be held on 31 May, replacing the previous Sustainable Living Expo and JCU's Sustainability Fair. It will form part of a regional EcoWeek initiative that will include the Townsville, Cassowary Coast and Mareeba councils.

The Cairns EcoFiesta will be held at the Cruise Liner Terminal and will be complemented by JCU's Sustainability Symposium on 5 June.
