Draft Municipal Plan 2014-15


The City of Darwin released the draft 2014/2015 Municipal Plan.

Lord Mayor Katrina Fong Lim said the budget that was responsive to the current financial climate without losing sight of the City’s strategic goals.

“I believe we’ve struck the right balance,” the Lord Mayor said.

“With this Budget we will continue progress on our Evolving Darwin: Towards 2020 strategic plan and Darwin City Centre Master Plan without neglecting the $1.2 billion in assets we need to maintain or the high level of service we provide”


Flags fly proudly at Hawkesbury City Council


People from far and wide gathered this week at a special ceremony outside Hawkesbury City Council’s Administration Building to officially raise the Aboriginal Flag and Torres Strait Islander Flag as part of National Reconciliation Week.

The Aboriginal flag was raised by Aunty Edna and Uncle Wes and the Torres Strait Islander flag was raised by Aunty Deb.

The beautiful autumn day saw a fresh breeze lift the flags straight after they were raised in front of a respectful crowd of 130 people who gazed proudly to see the flags flying.

Karreenga Aboriginal Action Plan 2014-2017


At the last Council meeting Council adopted the draft Karreenga Aboriginal Action Plan 2014-2017 and signed a Statement of Intent.

Mayor Cr Darryn Lyons said the Action Plan articulates the steps towards developing partnerships between Aboriginal and non Aboriginal Australians.

“I see the Karreenga Aboriginal Action Plan as part of the journey to reconciliation,” said the Mayor.

“An important part of this journey is the work that has already been done over the past five years to develop the Plan with Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-operative, Wathaurung Aboriginal Corporation, Narana Creations and Aboriginal people in our region.”


New steering group formed for Ocean Drive duplication project


Port Macquarie-Hastings Council has established a new steering group to help provide appropriate governance for the Ocean Drive duplication project.

It follows the success of the steering group model for other major projects across the local government area including the Stingray Creek Bridge Replacement Project, the Small Villages Sewerage Scheme and the Port Macquarie Indoor Stadium Expansion Project.

Council resolved at its Ordinary meeting last Wednesday night to establish a steering group comprised of elected councillors, senior Council staff and Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) representatives.
