Ballarat residents urged to ‘Detox your Home’

City of Ballarat residents are being urged to ‘Detox your Home’ – a safe, free and easy-to-use service to dispose of common household chemicals without harming your health or the environment.

The household chemical collection service is coming to Ballarat  on this Saturday 6 December  from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm and City of Ballarat, in partnership with Sustainability Victoria, is encouraging residents to take the opportunity to get rid of unwanted – and potentially dangerous – items like pesticides, detergents and weed killers.


Council phone survey underway


About 400 local residents can expect a phone call over the coming days asking them for their with a opinion about Tamworth Regional Council's proposal to seek a rates rise to create a new works fund and build new infrastructure.

Micromex Research will carry out the comprehensive phone survey over two weeks.

Tamworth Region Mayor Col Murray said the survey results, along with other community consultation undertaken, will help Councillors decide whether Council should or should not apply to IPART for a Special Rate Variation.


CRC snares state tourism award

 

Cairns Regional Council's contribution to the local tourism industry has added to the recent list of major awards.

CRC took out the Local Government Award at the Queensland Tourism Awards in Brisbane on Friday night. This followed receipt of a similar award at the Tropical North Queensland Tourism Awards the previous week.

The Local Government category is open to all local government authorities and recognises excellence in tourism planning, provision of tourism facilities and services, marketing, event development and management, and the overall contribution made both locally and overall to the state's tourism industry.


Hornsby Council wins Coastal Innovation Award


Hornsby Shire Council has received the 2014 Coastal Management Award for Innovation for its successful Hawkesbury Watch Program.

The program uses state-of-the-art technology to monitor the Hawkesbury Estuary and provide information on daily swimming conditions, estuarine health grades and real time data.

The public can access the information via a website and free mobile phone application, which benefits a wide range of people including industry workers, recreational users, waterway managers and researchers.
