CLAIR Local Government Forum in Sydney Showcases

Innovative Regional Solutions

Case studies from local governments in Japan and Tasmania demonstrate how local leaders can think outside the square to revitalise regional centres and communities.

More than forty local government professionals from Sydney and regional NSW benefited from a diversity of presentations at a forum co-hosted by The Japan Local Government Centre (CLAIR) and the Australian Centre of Excellence for Local Government (ACELG).

Held at the University of Technology, Sydney in late November, the theme of the 2014 CLAIR Forum was 'Revitalise Your City' and aimed  to encourage an exchange of ideas between local governments of Australia and Japan about the sustainability of regional places.

Perth going up in the world

Perth’s stellar rankings in the latest fDi Global Cities of the Future 2014/15 survey highlight the growing maturity of our city and its exciting future, says Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi.

“To be ranked fifth, worldwide, in the category of Human Capital and Lifestyle underlines the quality and competence of our workforce and the city’s desirability as a place to live,” Ms Scaffidi said.

“And to be placed 16th overall in the top 25 cities in the world for FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) Strategy, reinforces our credentials as a dynamic city of international significance.”

Port Phillip refers Gasworks clean-up to State Government

Port Phillip Council will ask the State Government to project manage soil remediation works at the Gasworks Arts Park in Albert Park.

The decision follows extensive investigations by Council into the best way of remediating widespread contaminated soil at the popular park – the remnants of a former State Government gasworks operation.

Councillors agreed at last night’s Council meeting to request the State Government, as the original polluter, to project manage any remediation works required to guarantee the long-term safety of park users.
