South Melbourne Market attracts record numbers


The South Melbourne Market has attracted a record number of visitors to the City of Port Phillip in 2013/14.

More than 3.83 million people visited the Market in 2013/14, up from the previous year’s 3.76 million according to the Market’s annual report, which was presented at last night’s Council meeting.

Mayor Amanda Stevens said in a tough year for retail, South Melbourne Market has beaten expectations.


Bookshop literati love late nights at the library

 

The City of Sydney is encouraging residents to rediscover the joys of reading with a new series of author talks that also celebrate some of the city’s best-loved local bookshops.

Well-known local writers, including David Malouf, PM Newton and Linda Jaivin, have teamed up with Newtown’s Better Read Than Dead Bookstore and the Potts Point Bookshop to offer an interesting series of events for city booklovers.

The monthly events will be held at Kings Cross Library and Newtown Library to allow the bookshops to use larger community spaces to reach a wider audience.


Council contract opportunities canvassed with local chamber


The door to opportunities encased in sourcing contracts with Council was thrown wide open to members of the local business community attending a Bundaberg Chamber of Commerce breakfast this week.
 
“Supplying to Local Government” was the topic presented by Bundaberg Regional Council’s Strategic Supply team.
 
Chamber president Yale Morgan said around 30 local business operators were represented at the information session. “I was staggered that around 70% of those attending were not registered with Council Local Buy or Local Government Tenderbox platforms.”

Lithgow supports NSW’s premier organisation for litter reduction and environmental sustainability, Keep New South Wales Beautiful, at its annual fundraising dinner.

The aims of KNSWB have been to work with very passionate individuals and groups across NSW to educate, motivate and reward communities to create sustainable and a more beautiful environment. Lithgow has been a long and proud supporter of KNSWB and has won many awards during this time and which culminated in Lithgow being NSW’s and Australia’s Tidiest Town in 2011. Recently the annual Premier’s Dinner 2014 was held as KNSWB’s major fundraising event and to encourage participation in KNSWB’s latest program ‘Take the Pledge’. The Dinner is named and attended by the NSW Premier, the Hon. Mike Baird.
