350 Roller Derby Athletes to roll into Bendigo

 

With some 350 athletes and 75 officials the Bendigo Rebellion Roller Derby Tournament is the biggest roller derby event ever to be held in Victoria.   

Hosted by Skate Victoria the 16 teams from across Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales will battle it out over two huge days at the Bendigo Exhibition Centre on November 1 and 2. 

Skate Victoria CEO Gloria Hawken said Skate Victoria has been working with roller derby leagues in Victoria and Tasmania since the sport first started in Australia back in 2007.


Landmark study for liveability enters third decade

During Knowledge Week 2014, the City of Melbourne is asking this question as we develop our third Places for People study.

Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said that Places for People is a major research undertaking.


Mobile food truck trial for Perth

 

The Council has approved a trial of mobile food trading in the City of Perth.

After last night’s Council Meeting, the wheels are now in motion to allow ten mobile food vendors to operate in the City of Perth area from Februray to May in 2015.

Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi says the decision is another exciting step forward towards making a stronger, more diverse, capital city.


Winning LEDs light up the city

 

The City of Sydney’s LED light program has been recognised for leadership and innovation at this year’s Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (NSW) annual awards.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the LED lighting program has already reduced associated emissions and energy use by over 40 per cent.

“Replacing 6,450 conventional lights will save nearly $800,000 a year in electricity bills and maintenance costs,” the Lord Mayor said.
