Apps wanted to showcase city Wi-Fi

Applications are now open for the AdelaideFree Wi-Fi App Development Competition, seeking new apps that are designed specifically for use on the AdelaideFree Wi-Fi network.

Science Minister Grace Portolesi said the city wide Wi-Fi network provided opportunities for apps to change the way people work and enjoy our city and this competition will kick start their development.

“The sort of thing we are looking for will show innovation and creativity and will help make Adelaide a more vibrant city,” she said.

Garden guru to launch greenscaping contest in Darebin

Chelsea Flower Show-winning gardening doyen Wes Fleming is teaming up with Darebin City Council to launch an exciting new competition promoting green urban design – and to kick things off, he’s giving Reservoir’s Carson Street a rapid-fire green makeover on Saturday 16 November.

The makeover coincides with the opening of the Transforming Darebin competition, which offers a chance for three lucky streets – one in each ward (Rucker, Cazaly and Latrobe) – to be ‘greenscaped’ by Wes and his team.

Local disaster management group gets ready for disaster

Council and the Sunshine Coast’s emergency services will be put to the test when they join for a practice disaster exercise, part of yearly preparations for extreme summer weather.

The realistic scenario, based on the impact of severe weather events such as east coast lows and super cell severe storms, will test the readiness of the Sunshine Coast Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG), police, fire, ambulance, SES and other services.
