Partnership approach urged for Plan Melbourne
At the Council meeting, City of Port Phillip Councillors endorsed a submission to the Department of Transport, Planning, and Local Infrastructure in response to the public release of Plan Melbourne - the State Government’s new Metropolitan Planning Strategy to the year 2050.
The key points outlined in the Council’s submission include advocating for early investment in transport and social infrastructure to ensure that inner-city neighbourhoods remain vibrant, attractive and accessible. To support this goal the submission highlights the importance of further early investment in new public transport and that funding is provided to build it.

The unprecedented surge in investment in Fremantle follows amendments to the local town planning scheme that allow for greater density within key strategic locations in the Fremantle CBD.
Improved network provides connections
The City of Sydney announced an improved city centre cycleway network to align with the NSW Government’s plans to keep Sydney’s transport moving.
Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the City’s cycleway network had an important role to play in delivering the integrated transport network promised by the NSW Government’s Sydney City Centre Access Strategy.
“The City is delighted that we can now work in partnership with the NSW Government to build a network of safe, separated cycleway routes to and across central Sydney, linking up important destinations,” the Lord Mayor said.
Keeping watch on fauna future
Sunshine Coast Council and the University of the Sunshine Coast have joined forces to undertake a comprehensive survey of fauna species in the Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve.
Division 5 Councillor Jenny McKay said the detailed survey will provide a timely health check for the reserve’s fauna.
“Council is very keen to build partnerships with our local experts and learning institutes,” she said.
