Ballarat impressive for economic development initiatives in Victoria
Recently, the Economic Development and Infrastructure Committee (EDIC) received a reference from the Victorian Parliament to inquire into local economic development in Victoria.
Now the final report is in.....
The Committee found that some councils demonstrated a commitment to evidence-based strategic planning and were active in undertaking research and analysis to support economic policy.
The Committee was impressed by the economic development strategies developed by Greater Dandenong City Council (CC), Ballarat CC and Greater Geelong CC.
Council to consider proposal to rezone former school site
Council will this week consider how to respond to a State Government proposal to rezone the former Golden Square Secondary School site.
A report to be tabled at Wednesday’s meeting states that the Government wants to rezone the land at 41-73 Hattam Street from Public Use 2 (Education) to a General Residential Zone in preparation for sale.
The Minister for Planning has established an Advisory Committee to consider submissions from a range of stakeholders, including the City of Greater Bendigo.
Council welcomes $490,000 grant for city safety
Users of the new Adelaide Oval, Riverbank and West End entertainment precincts are set to benefit from a $490,000 Federal Government grant, for the Adelaide City Council to introduce new safety initiatives.
Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood said the Adelaide City Council made the submission to the National Crime Prevention Fund earlier this year to significantly invest in safety improvements for what is about to be a massively busy part of the city.
“The $490,000 will go toward strengthening Council’s already 70 strong CCTV capability, with the installation of five new CCTV cameras and associated infrastructure in the area along King William Street, between North Terrace and Adelaide Oval to monitor people movement,” Stephen said.
Program to Focus on Access Friendly Business
The launch of a new initiative to encourage businesses in the Port Macquarie-Hastings area to become more access friendly has the potential to make a big difference to those in the community with a disability.
The 'Access Friendly' project is an initiative of the Port Macquarie-Hastings Access Committee and involves the Committee offering a free service to businesses providing advice and tips on how to become more disability friendly.
