Bike plan on a roll
A plan to revolutionise Albany’s bicycle network and transform the city into one of Australia’s premier cycling destinations is well on the way to becoming reality.
In recent months City of Albany staff and various other stakeholder groups have been hard at work on the City of Albany Bike Plan, a project which aims to create an interconnected, continuous and easy-to-use bike network made up of roads, dual-use paths and off-road trails.
Council encouraging local business to learn about government tendering process
Southern Downs Regional Council is encouraging business owners to attend an upcoming workshop designed to help local business understand government tendering processes and ultimately win more tenders.
SDRC Planning and Development Manager Cecil Barnard said the Queensland Government Tendering for government business workshop is a must for your 2013 diary.

Environmental Sustainability Strategy: Enhancing Devonport's environmental assets
Council endorsed for public comment the Devonport City Council Environmental Sustainability Strategy. This Strategy aims to achieve a more consistent approach across Council to environmental management, and to improve the Council's environmental performance. This Strategy will assist the Council to achieve the goal of Living Lightly on our Environment in Council's Strategic Plan 2009-2030.
"The implementation of the Environmental Sustainability Strategy will result in significant resource savings through improved energy efficiency, water efficiency and reducing waste to landfill," said Devonport Mayor, Alderman Steve Martin.
Your Environment Levy to protect land at Verrierdale
More than 850 hectares of land has now been purchased by Sunshine Coast Council for conservation as part of its strategy to become the most sustainable region in Australia.
Mayor Mark Jamieson said council used $2 million from the Environment Levy to buy 252 hectares of land adjoining an existing nature reserve at Verrierdale.
“This is an important day for this region; this parcel of land is another important piece of the puzzle to help us preserve our natural environment on the Sunshine Coast,” he said.
