Builders say a lack of council planning staff is holding back projects.

Dubbo City Council

Dubbo City Council will reconsider options for capital works projects to apply for new funding under Round Three of the Federal Government’s National Stronger Regions Fund (NSRF) after being unsuccessful in Round Two.

Mayor of Dubbo Councillor Mathew Dickerson said Council had applied for funding for Stage 2 of the upgrade to the Dubbo City Holiday Park and re-construction of the South Dubbo Weir.

“The nature of competitive grant funding means that not every project proposed is going to be successful,” Councillor Dickerson said. “While it is disappointing it is important that priorities are set and projects continue to be delivered.”

Cairns Regional Council

Funding will be sought from the State Government to assist in the construction of a cycling and walking path from Palm Cove to Trinity Beach.

To be known as the Northern Beaches Leisure Trail, the $5 million project will provide a safe and scenic route for cyclists and pedestrians long the northern beaches foreshore.

Council is seeking grant funding worth $2.5 million under the Cycle Network Local Government Grants Program.

City of Greater Bendigo

An independent panel says it “strongly supports” Greater Bendigo City Council’s plans for a compact city.

The panel’s findings have been publicly released today and are available on the City of Greater Bendigo’s website at www.bendigo.vic.gov.au/residentialstrategy

Earlier this year, the independent panel appointed by Planning Panels Victoria held 11 days of hearings into a Planning Scheme Amendment (C215) needed to implement the Greater Bendigo Residential Strategy.
