Cleaner, safer - major street light retrofit completed

The City of Sydney has completed a major program to install energy efficient LEDs in street and park lights across its entire local area, reducing energy use by 40 per cent and improving visibility at night.

Over 6,150 conventional street and park lights have been replaced with energy efficient LEDs over the past three years, saving nearly $800,000 a year in electricity bills and maintenance costs while cutting emissions.

Lord Mayor Clover Moore said the project had been welcomed by the community with positive feedback about improved brightness for better visibility and overall safety.

“We were the first council in Australia to install energy efficient LEDs across our area and the NSW Government is now following our lead, encouraging councils across Sydney to replace conventional street lights with LEDs,” the Lord Mayor said.

Council investment reaps rewards for the Lakes

Wyong Shire Council is continuing to carry out a number of projects in and around the Tuggerah Lakes to help improve the health of the estuary.

As part of Council’s Wyong Alive campaign, October is all about lakes and beaches and is a great chance to highlight some of the works being done.

Council’s Waterways and Coastal Section Manager, Mr Luke Sulkowski, said Council has been able to do extra improvement works thanks to a $3.25 million funding from the Australian Government's National Landcare Programme to help improve the health of Tuggerah Lakes.

Strengthening Ambon Ties with Student Exchange Program

Lord Mayor Katrina Fong Lim was at Kormilda College for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Sister Cities Darwin and Ambon.

The MOU is a three year commitment to the Student Teacher exchange between Kormilda College here in Darwin and SMA Negeri 5 in Ambon.

The Lord Mayor visited SMA Negeri 5 in Ambon on her official visit last month.

“It was fabulous to meet the principal and students at SMA Negeri 5 and see how this exchange program is building partnerships between school leaders, teachers and students allowing for knowledge and ideas to be shared and cultural ties to be made,” said the Lord Mayor.
