State Government to introduce fire levy

The State Government has introduced a Fire Services Property Levy to fund the state’s fire services and requires local governments to collect the funds on its behalf.

The levy is being applied to land and buildings, including Council-owned properties, and Council is obligated to collect all funds via the annual rates.

As part of the ongoing initiatives to reduce its operating costs, eliminate the Budget deficit and minimise the impact of any future rates increases to region residents, Bundaberg Regional Council has today offered voluntary redundancies across all sectors of its staff.

Help for schools to be ResourceSmart

Schools in the region have more help to develop environmental programs following the appointment of a ResourceSmart facilitator for East Gippsland.

Under the Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative Victoria (AuSSI Vic), ResourceSmart facilitators help schools develop programs to minimise waste, save energy and water and improve biodiversity.

 

Watch Kingston Council meetings at home

Residents can have a front row seat at Kingston Council meetings without leaving home when proceedings are webcast live on the internet from July 22.

The live streaming means residents can watch Councillors in action and instantly know what has been decided without attending the monthly Ordinary Council Meetings or looking up the public minutes posted on Kingston’s website.
